A Day out to Dunnideer Castle (Ruin)

Visiting Dunnideer Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, was a captivating venture into the heart of Scottish history. Perched atop a hill, this ancient site boasts remnants that hint at its origins tracing back to Pictish times.

Approaching the castle, the surrounding landscape unveils Aberdeenshire's rolling hills and picturesque scenery. The climb up the hill, while moderate, builds anticipation for what awaits—an exploration of centuries-old ruins.

The castle's remains, though weathered by time, retain an undeniable charm. Scattered stones and fragments offer glimpses into its former grandeur, invoking a sense of wonder about the lives lived within these walls.

The historical significance of Dunnideer Castle lies in its ties to the Picts, an ancient people who left their mark on Scotland. The fortifications, including vitrified remains, hold clues to their craftsmanship and way of life, contributing to Scotland's rich cultural tapestry.

This is an amazing site definitely worth a visit, just over the hill as part as the walk there is a beautiful stone circle. The walk has a fair gradient at certain points so suitable footwear is advised. I went in January 2024 and it was still frozen in certain points. Overall the walk took me around 45 minutes.
